So I've kind of given up on blogging, if you haven't already guessed... facebook stole me, plus I'm not much of a writer. But I think I owe it to the internet to show some updates of our house.

This is taken from the landing on the stairs, looking down into the living room, and you an see the front door there.

Our Plants, Tom (on the right, he came with the house in a pot that had "Tom" written on it) and his wife, Betty. I know you are all anxiously awaiting pictures of the inside of our house(yah right).... But here's a small taste for the few of you who do:

So this is the view from the landing looking at the front door, with the siiting room to the left. There are 2 different white balances so the walls look like they are different colours, but that are all the green colour in reality. We are going to paint pretty much every wall in the house come January, after all the festivities. I'd like a colour similar to what the walls look like in this pictures, a nice neutral taupe. We now have our tree set up in the front window in this room. I need to take more recent pictures.

This is looking from beside the front door towards the back of the house.
And this is taken from the living room looking at Chloe, and the kitchen/dining room. These boxes are now all gone! This was taken only 2 days after moving in. We now only have boxes in the basement.
Living room, all unpacked. Much better. I can breathe now.

Main floor half bath.
Guest room. Like the purple? Its very bright in real life.... I can't wait to neutralize. although I do have a purple duvet cover to go into here.... but it would be oerwhelming with the walls AND curtains AND bed. We also need to buy a double bed in here, although so far the air mattress works well.
2nd bedroom. Its a nice navy, but much too dark and depressing for my liking. Our Bedside tables are in here because there is not quite enough room in our room. We also need to get a bed in here. A crib, perhaps?? Just KIDDING!!
2nd Floor Main bath. This red makes me feel angry. It will be spa-like after a nice blue paint job.
OUR bedroom! The red curtains have been replaced with a blue to match the duvet cover.... Love them! And our ensuite is through that door.

The basement! The stairs are to the left, and behind the stairs is Travis' office, which we will drywall and paint in January as well.. pictures to follow. Travis has big plans for the basement, he says it is his favorite part of the house. He wants a theater room. We need money!

I know I talked a lot about the changes we want to make, but we feel SO BLESSED every day to be in this house, and are just loving homeownership, and being able to make these plans for future changes. God is so Good.

1 day left!!

I am so excited!!! We move in on Wednesday! That is 1 day and 4 hours from now. Can you beleive it? We are going to be HOMEOWNERS!! That is just crazy. My arms are already super sore, and all we have loaded into the horse trailer (after shoveling POOP out of it, thanks Dad!), is a couch and our tv cabinet. These are the biggest things we have, but my arms are sore!! After I type this we are going to load some more boxes in there. Booo. I want to be UNpacking!! Our plan at first was to paint before moving in, but we don't want to rush it... we want to do it once, and do it right. It's easy enough to move furniture into the center of the room and paint. We just wont hang any artwork quite yet. Here is a little teaser of what is to come:

YAAAYY!!!

P.S. I changed my comment moderation because of some anonymous commenter who decided to try and ruin my happy news. You know who you are. Anyway, your comments won't show up until I approve them now.

Wish us luck!!

P.P.S. Since we moved into the basement of this house, wooden caps have been put on the stairs, which make them stick out 2 inches longer. Because of this, we can not fit our boxspring back up the stairs!! So it is stuck here forever:( Anyone have a spare??? Actually I think I'll be able to scrounge up a mismatched boxspring at the Brick or something for cheap. I hope this is our one thing that goes wrong. But I doubt that.

A day at the (dog) park

Hi guys! Miss me?

Travis and I get asked a lot how life in Calgary is. The answer? Great. We really like it here. We are so so excited to finally move into our own house, after a year and a half of marriage, and a year and a half wasting our money paying other people's mortgages. We both hate the feeling of that money just disappearing at the end of the month. We are excited to start paying into something that will appreciate in value, and be ours. 18 more days!! (and 2 hours, 55 minutes, 08 seconds) but who's counting?? I'm excited to make a house into our home. And we are so grateful for friends and family who are so encouraging and helpful.

As I was saying... Calgary is a great place. We love the friends we have been making here, and moving will also help keep those friendships in place, as they live on that side of town, too. We love the off-leash parks, and shopping (although our tight budget won't allow for much of that) and that its still close to my family. Please pray for us as we take on these changes and big life steps.

New House!

Travis and I are very pleased to announce that we bought our very first house today!! But I am excited about it. Jenny styled me and did my hair and makeup, and Arlynd took some pictures of me. I am normally the one behind the camera so it was a rare treat to be able to have some pictures taken of me. We took SO MANY, and I like a lot of them, but I will post just my favorite one... for now. Who knows, maybe after some editing I might post a couple more. Yay! It was a good thing, because he spent almost a whole month going through the interview process, only working (building playgrounds) for about a week of that. So he starts next Tuesday. Captaris is actually really close to my work, so, depending on what time he works, we might be able to carpool! And it will really help with eventually buying a house, rather than having jobs on opposite ends of the city and deciding who gets to drive longer to work.

I am so anxious for the next stage in our lives.... Homeownership. We just need to get Travis' student line of credit payed off and save some money. Hopefully that will be motivation enough to live cheaper! I heard on the radio that Calgary is starting to become a buyers market! The houses are still very expensive, but there are enough on the market now that the houses are actually worth their selling price, and people can't just charge any rediculous price. Let's hope this trend continues for a few months!

Travis' meez

Seven Random Facts

Since I was tagged by Susan, it's now my turn to share 7 random facts.

Here are the rules… Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog.

My big toe is ABNORMALLY bigger than all the rest of them, and the rest of them are all curled (hammer toes). This creates some problems for shoe purchasing, and I wear a hole into socks within days of buying them where my big toe goes. You can see a picture of them here.

I'm not a neat person. I really wish I was, and I could be if I wanted to. But... lets face it, I like a good sit on my rear after work.

When I was little I was SUPER shy. My parents kept trying to get me out of my little world by enrolling me in sports. That didnt ever last too long. I was in figure skating for one year, but didnt want to go back because I WAVED TO MY DAD during our final performance, which we were strictly told not to do. I was in gymnastics for a year, but I broke my arm, and of course didn't go back. I got out of Volleyball camp before it even started.

Also when I was younger I was very fragile emotionally. You could make me cry at the drop of a hat, just ask my brothers. My catch phrase was "you hurt my feeeeeelings". Physical pain, however, was a different situation. When I broke my arm in gymnastics my parents didnt believe me, and it took a couple of days before I got a cast on it.

I fell (actually was accidentally pushed) out of the back of a truck at my cousin Dianna's house when we were little, and I stayed in the Coaldale Hospital with a big goose egg for a night.

I have no will power when it comes to fries or Starbucks. No diet will ever hold me back. Travis calls me a "fry monster".

I have not found my passion. I like interior design, but I am not passionate about it. I wish I had that. I thought it might be photography, and dont get me wrong, I looove taking pictures, and love my D50, but I'm not passionate about that either.

I tag Lisa, Christy, Amanda, Courtney, Robyn, Meghan, and Janice.

My Meez character

I should be practicing my AutoCAD for work tomorrow, but I discovered a website (www.meez.com) that lets you create a character for yourself. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for our Brand Spanking New couches. There was some miscommunication which led to Travis believing they were tied down properly and.. well, the loveseat bounced out of the truck on the Lethbridge hill. I was following (not too close, thankfully), and it all happened in slow motion. On a teeny tiny bump the loveseat just bounced out and landed on its arm, and flipped over onto the the bottom, and slid. I slammed on the brakes and honked, hoping Travis would hear me (which he didn't).. and I pulled onto the shoulder, partially blocking the couch, whipped on my hazards, and called Travis, shaking like I've never shaked before. This is how the conversation went:
Me: "THE COUCH FELL OFF THE TRUCK!!!!'
Travis: "ARE YOU OK??" (So concerned it had hit me, good hubby)
Me: "Yeah but turn around!!! It's in the middle of the road!"

I won't tell you the rest, I was shaken up and scared, and used some choice words.. Not a whole lot, but lets just say I wasn't very patient with Travis. So then I ran out and pulled the loveseat onto the Shoulder as well, and the traffic was getting a little heavier (I broke a nail! the nerve). And then I saw the big tear/road burn on the very front of the arm. Then I cried. So when Travis arrived again we loaded it back up, drove about 30km/h to the farm, and strapped them up REAL GOOD. I guess we won't be returning them after all... But we called Visa and are trying to get them to cover us for the damage, as they have a 90 day accidental damage policy.. But they were cranky on the phone. But anyway, they are sending a form and we'll see what happens.

The move has gone really well. Mom & dad moved seriously almost ALL of our stuff in as we had to stay for part of Derek's grad Saturday night. And if you know my dad, you know that he can't wait to start stuff, things should be done YESTERDAY. There was still a bit of construction to be done, so we set up our bed on the floor and put all our stuff and boxes in the center of the rooms. The painter came in yesterday and finished, so we could put all of our furniture into place. We didn't have a working shower yet, so went and showered at Trav's sister Tanya's house. But this morning they finished the upstairs shower so it will be ready to use by tonight! We will just have to intrude on Arlynd and Jen's space a little bit until the shower down here is done. It is a bit more complicated, with about 7 heads and steam and a very programmable thingy.. which is the problem right now I think. But it will come in time.. and then they will be using this shower.

Living with Travis' cousins definately has its perks... Travis got a 2 hour long massage last night, from Arlynd, and he feels so much better. Mine had better be coming up soon! The only crappy thing so far is Chloe's bathroom situation. She is used to the large backyard full of grass, but this backyard has no grass, and it has a pond which she jumped in by accident the first night thinking it was ground! So now she is scared of the backyard, and very distracted by cars and people in the front yard. It is getting better, though. She also jumped into the glass door, thinking it was open. Now THAT was funny. She was embarrassed though, poor girl.

Pictures to come soon. My laptop crashed again so I have to try and get everything back on here.

Problem Possibly Solved

So Trav and I went to the Brick, and looked at the couches again. In the store, they do NOT look pink! So I think it might just be the lighting in this house. So we talked to the lovely saleslady (and the annoying salesman from the first trip who wouldn't leave us alone) and we got them to extend the 7-day return period to 14 days for us. So we will be able to see if they look better in the new house when we move (on SATURDAY.... YIKES!!). So the problem is at least put on hold for a while. So I hope they look great in the new place!

Speaking of moving, packing SUCKS BUTT. And we are going to need to find storage (hopefully at the parents' houses) for the stuff that may not fit yet, or is too much work to move at this time. (Like Trav's HUGE tool chest) But things are coming along nicely. I would say we are about 70% packed. But I'm sure there is probably more lurking around somewhere. Wish us luck!!

Big Fat Jerk

SOoooooo the sofa saga continues. Now that we have the new new ones in our house... well.... I don't know if I'm being too picky or what but.... They look pink. When we were in the store I thought it was the fluorescent lights, but they look kinda dusty rose in our house in certain lights. This is tearing me up on the inside. Horribly. Am I being too picky??? Or should I be picky when spending about $2000??? I want to love these forever. And it really isn't too bad, but the designer in me wants them to be perfect. We have to decide by Thursday, the brick gives a week long period to change your mind. But this is getting rediculous. Mom, I am SO SORRY. I'm having Tiff over right away to help me decide whether they are too pink or not. Or maybe we should just go to the Brick tomorrow and do it while my parents are camping. And not even tell them. I feel sick about this though... I mean... 3 sofas???? Please tell me I'm not crazy. I really need any advice I can get. Should I be picky?? Or should I just suck it up and learn to love these ones. I mean, they look good with no sunlight!

I had better get 20 comments.

New couches? We both LOVED the look of them and were so happy. This is what they looked like:

Nice, eh? We were so proud. I spent an hour conditioning the leather and admiring our amazing find. And then about 30 minutes passed and we realised that the pets nicely jumping up was pretty much GOUGING the leather. Crap. We tried to keep them off, but they were both so sad from being yelled at and not knowing what they were doing wrong. Plus, whats the point of having such a cute puppy if you are not able to cuddle on the couch?? So in two days they looked like crap. I mean, nothing should scratch that easily. We were nervous just sitting on them because any seam of button on your pants can scratch them. I didn't want to tell mom that we wanted to return them, because it was such a nice gift, but it had to be done. So yesterday we went to the brick and had a HECK OF A TIME trying to return them. I mean we bought a 5 year warranty on them, and etc etc.... They weren't budging, because we got them on sale. Retarded. But finally with mom almost crying, me arguing with the guy at mach(sp) speed, and Travis standing firm, the guy finally budged. YAY!! So Travis and I spent a little extra, a lot of time, and picked out these microfiber babies:

Well, not exactly these, we were SO TEMPTED to get the aqua colour. I LOVE LOVE the colour, and Travis does too. But we both know that it is a trendy colour and that in a few years we would regret that choice. So we got the couch and loveseat and a nice taupe colour! And we will accent with this aqua. So we promised the nice lady at the Brick that we would spread the word that they did us well. We pick them up tomorrow! And bring these peices of ..... back.

On Monday Travis and I went to Calgary to look for a place to live. A few tears later, we found a place!!! The first place we went to see was a small basement suite for $1000..... I got depressed really fast because it was A HOLE.... A the whole drive to Calgary I had been calling place after place after place and they were either already rented, no pets allowed, or not able to show us that day, or just plain too expensive. Travis called up his cousin, who has a house in Calgary that he is renovating, and we asked him if we could rent his place. Good idea, he thought, since they are rarely there, and not making any money on it now, but he would check with his wife. She loved the idea! So we drove over there and had a look. It's still under construstion but very close to being finished. The contractor said he would have it all cleaned up in two weeks when we want to move in. Its very lovely and fancy. And affordable. A real answer to prayer. So we move in two weeks! Lots of packing to come.

My Birthday!

It's my birthday today! I have such a great hubby.

I am getting really excited about my new job. Everyone at my current work has been so supportive and helpful. But I'm still excited to not work there. I would also like to say congratulations to my brother, Dan, who got his dream job as a fireman/EMR in Sherwood Park! I'm so excited to be able to live close to them again, and see them more. (www.mccrums.ab.ca ) The interview went really well, both ladies (HR and Design dept. leader) were super nice. They said I probably wouldn't hear back until next week sometime. But I got a message on my cell today asking me to call them back about being offered a position with them! So I'm calling in the morning. Yay! The showrooms (they have FIVE showrooms) were SO FANCY, ant it sounds like I would really enjoy the job. So I am so excited. I have been so done with retail and Linens N Things for.... well, FOREVER.

I am also very nervous. The start date is June 1st (I think), so we have only a month to find somewhere to live. I'd love to buy a townhouse and be done moving for a while, but we might need to scrounge up some financing... We will see what happens I guess. Worse comes to worse we can rent somewhere (which is hard with pets) or stay at some relatives for a short time until we find something. Anyone renting out or selling a place in Calgary??

Daddy's little girl

Big news... well actually little news. Chloe is "in season"! My little girl is all grown up! She is too young yet to breed her, so we are keeping a very watchful eye on her and any male dog around. Maybe next heat cycle, or in six months or so.

In other news, we STILL have no idea where we are going to live. NO IDEA. I got a couple calls for interviews in Calgary, which I have to call and schedule like right now (very nervous). But Travis hasn't heard anything back yet so I have no idea what to tell them. This is very frustrating to me. But Travis is done school this Wednesday!!! Forever!!! Can we hear an "Amen"??

So here are the choices:

Stay here in Lethbridge, I would get a better job, Travis would ask for a raise at his job which he loves, but just doesn't get paid quite enough, and A: buy a fixer-upper and flip it, or B: buy a small lot and built a cute house, or

Find jobs in Calgary, buy a rediculously expensive house (which they all are), and try to fix it up and maybe flip it.

So you tell us what we should do. So last night we did just that. We have Nikita right now since mom is visiting Dan, Amanda, Joshua, Cadence and, NEW BABY JOSEPH!!! YAY! Congrats Dan & Amanda! And dad is gone to Edmonton for "family meetings". The fact that we have Nikita is kind of beside the point, but she was on the walk too. Right now, there are SO MANY CANADA GEESE, especially around the lake. Chloe is SO outgoing, and was pulling on the leash the whole time trying to go meet and play with them and all the people and other dogs. I was getting kind of sick of all this pulling to we went onto the little "island", which is more of a peninsula, on the lake where there were no people so I thought I could let go of the leash for a minute and let her walk around on there for a bit. Well, I thought wrong. She saw 2 geese out of the corner of her eye, and before I could stop her she LUNGED INTO THE LAKE! (for those of you who do not live in Lethbridge, Henderson Lake is a small, man made lake which usually has a bit of a greenish hue to it)... And she started swimming after these two geese! She hates baths so I never would have figured she would run so easily into the lake.. let alone know how to swim... luckily this comes naturally to dogs. Anyway, I yelled at her to come, and a few feet into the water she realised what she was doing and turned around and swam back to me. Turns out these 2 geese were about to be mommy and daddy geese and were protecting a nest because the were hissing at her (and us), and looked about ready to kill us. So I snatched her out of the icky water and we ran away. And then laughed the entire way home, saying, "Can you beleive she did that???" She just really caught us off guard. But now that she didn't die, we love the story. Serves her right to walk all the way home wet. Trouble is that she is even more intrigued by the geese now and wants to see them more....

I would post a picture of her, but my laptop's hard drive crashed and ate all my pictures of her:( sure wish I had backed up recently!

Estrogen Overdose

I called Travis on the way home from work yesterday and he told me that Chloe had gotten into my BIRTH CONTROL PILLS! I accidentally left them on the bathroom counter, and then Toby jumped up and knocked them down, and Chloe proceeded to chew on the package and eat about a week's worth of pills. Great. I hate it when they work as a team like that! So when I got home I called the Vet, and she gave me the # for the pet poison center, but it would have cost a $35 consultation fee. So I took my chances and called the regular poison center, and they were very helpful. They said that since estrogen is normally in her system it wouldn't do her any harm. YAY!
Here's the evidence:

Thank you, home buyers seminar!

Travis and I went to a first time home buyers seminar tonight, and it cost us $5 each. That $5 was a donation to Rehoboth Ministries, which was matched by the wonderful people who put it on. The seminar was SO informative, something we really needed to learn. And the best part is, as door prizes we got $100 dollars in gift certificates! Thats right, folks! We learned about investing, and we got $50 bucks to spend at The Wooden Shoe, a wonderful bakery that just happened to be my first job, and $50 bucks to spend at Coco Pazzo, the best Italian restaurant in Lethbridge. How sweet is that?? I'm very excited to eat well. Oh and also we got pizza there, and we got to take 1/2 a leftover pizza home! No more cookin for this tired wife! For a couple of days, anyway.

P.S. I posted more Disneyland pictures on our flickr site. They are from Trav's parents' camera. I felt something jump down (Toby, he sleeps on our headboard), and my head got pushed into the pillow. Ouch. That kinda hurt, he usually jumps beside my head. Oh well, too tired to get mad at him. I'll try to go back to sleep. Why do I taste blood? And why does my cheek hurt so bad? I'll just suck on my lip for a while, he must have hit it with his claws jumping down. Blood tastes gross. And my cheek feels cut too. Roll over groggily, turn on bedside light. Try to adjust my eyes, look at my face in the mirror. Yikes. Toby really cut my face and lip! So I jump out of bed to show Travis (who was playing WOW at the time) and he laughs. Histerically. I cleaned out the cuts with hydrogen peroxide and went back to bed. It doesn't look too bad today, but there was some explaining to do.

That story sounded pretty dramatic, and I know I kinda jumped around from first person to past and future tense, but I don't really feel like fixing it. I'm too hungry and grumpy today. I was going to post a picture of the damage but my camera died. Maybe I'll update later. I remember now what it was like to have Gismo, the scratch-happy kitty of my childhood. (I admit it, I was definately an Elvira, from looney toones)

Before & After

I cut my hair today! I was feeling a little tired of my hair, and it grew so fast since the last time, so I went and got the change I needed. Here's the before: And here is the after!!

I think this is the shortest I have had my hair since maybe grade 8 when I wanted the "Jenna Elfman" cut from Dharma & Greg - which was not a good look for me, by the way. Travis specified that I stayed under shoulder length, so I went as close as I could to that! He likes it, and I like it too.

In other news, we went for our first rollerblade of the year today! Chloe sure had fun, and she sure is sleeping well right now. Although she needs to learn not to run right in front of the wheels. Leetle scary sometimes. And she is just so social she wants to run across the street to greet every person she sees! Its a little harder to stop on wheels.

My little baby... puppy that is.

Just now I was sitting on the couch on my laptop, looking for houses in Calgary and Lethbridge, discovering facebook (if you are on it, add me), checking blogs, and watching some design shows and Chloe did the cutest thing. Trying to do about ten things at once caused me to be a little distracted. So I didn't really notice what she was doing until just now. I noticed she was jumping up and sitting on the arm of the couch behind my back like she always does, jumping back down every once in a while. This is what we do every night for a bit so I didn't take notice. Until I took my eyes away from my screens and looked around a bit. There was not one, not two, but three teddy bears surrounding me. This whole time she was trying to play with me but I completely ignored her! Needless to say I am now paying a little attention to my baby girl. She does the cutest things. Sleeps on our pillow or even sometimes snuggled under the blankets right next to me. She loves other animals and will play with them relentlessly. Even while being humped my my friend's brother's Chihuahua, she kept just trying to play with him and thought he was trying to chase her. She cried when mom took Nikita away this weekend after we had been watching her.

Travis and I talk every day about what the future will bring us. The past month we had only really talked about jobs in Calgary, so I had been looking online at houses non-stop. It is rediculous. I don't know if there is any way we can afford a house there, even if it is a 100 square foot dump. So today we started talking about staying here in Lethbridge for a couple years, buy a small house, fix it up, and when we have some money saved, then move to Calgary. I already have a great jon waiting for me here should we decide to stay, so all we need is for Travis to find a good job. Keep us in your prayers! No matter where we go.
