Is 5 months really that bad?

Hi guys! So I've kind of given up on blogging, if you haven't already guessed... facebook stole me, plus I'm not much of a writer. But I think I owe it to the internet to show some updates of our house.
This is taken from the landing on the stairs, looking down into the living room, and you an see the front door there.
Our Plants, Tom (on the right, he came with the house in a pot that had "Tom" written on it) and his wife, Betty. The one with the braid.
And this is how Chloe spends her days. Guarding the street, protecting our family from people walking down the street. Another view of the family room. I still need some artwork for this room, I'm thinking some funky mirrors. Our dining room.View from the family room (at the back of the house) looking into the kitchen/dining room. You can see Tom and Betty way at the front of the house. Family Room. Where I am sitting now with my laptop. I love this new couch! And I made that artwork on the wall, with help from my friend Steph. Guest Bath.
Our Bedroom, with the lovely Duvet Cover that Christy sewed for us as a wedding present. I still love it.
Master bath/ Ensuite. Its always this messy. But I love having it. Guest room with single bed/ future Nursery. Don't get too excited, not the near future... think 5 year timeline, like Travis. This used to be the navy blue room. And lastly, guest room, with new double bed. The walls used to be purple, way brighter than the duvet cover is.

So thats our house!

I hope you all enjoyed your tour.

P.S. We are probably getting another Yorkie! (Thats our idea of expanding our family.) Do you have any name ideas?? Chloe needs a sister!

House Update

We got internet back!!! I know you are all anxiously awaiting pictures of the inside of our house(yah right).... But here's a small taste for the few of you who do:

So this is the view from the landing looking at the front door, with the siiting room to the left. There are 2 different white balances so the walls look like they are different colours, but that are all the green colour in reality. We are going to paint pretty much every wall in the house come January, after all the festivities. I'd like a colour similar to what the walls look like in this pictures, a nice neutral taupe. We now have our tree set up in the front window in this room. I need to take more recent pictures.

This is looking from beside the front door towards the back of the house.
And this is taken from the living room looking at Chloe, and the kitchen/dining room. These boxes are now all gone! This was taken only 2 days after moving in. We now only have boxes in the basement.
Living room, all unpacked. Much better. I can breathe now.

Main floor half bath.
Guest room. Like the purple? Its very bright in real life.... I can't wait to neutralize. although I do have a purple duvet cover to go into here.... but it would be oerwhelming with the walls AND curtains AND bed. We also need to buy a double bed in here, although so far the air mattress works well.
2nd bedroom. Its a nice navy, but much too dark and depressing for my liking. Our Bedside tables are in here because there is not quite enough room in our room. We also need to get a bed in here. A crib, perhaps?? Just KIDDING!!
2nd Floor Main bath. This red makes me feel angry. It will be spa-like after a nice blue paint job.
OUR bedroom! The red curtains have been replaced with a blue to match the duvet cover.... Love them! And our ensuite is through that door.
The basement! The stairs are to the left, and behind the stairs is Travis' office, which we will drywall and paint in January as well.. pictures to follow. Travis has big plans for the basement, he says it is his favorite part of the house. He wants a theater room. We need money!

I know I talked a lot about the changes we want to make, but we feel SO BLESSED every day to be in this house, and are just loving homeownership, and being able to make these plans for future changes. God is so Good.

1 day left!!

I am so excited!!! We move in on Wednesday! That is 1 day and 4 hours from now. Can you beleive it? We are going to be HOMEOWNERS!! That is just crazy. My arms are already super sore, and all we have loaded into the horse trailer (after shoveling POOP out of it, thanks Dad!), is a couch and our tv cabinet. These are the biggest things we have, but my arms are sore!! After I type this we are going to load some more boxes in there. Booo. I want to be UNpacking!! Our plan at first was to paint before moving in, but we don't want to rush it... we want to do it once, and do it right. It's easy enough to move furniture into the center of the room and paint. We just wont hang any artwork quite yet. Here is a little teaser of what is to come:

YAAAYY!!!

P.S. I changed my comment moderation because of some anonymous commenter who decided to try and ruin my happy news. You know who you are. Anyway, your comments won't show up until I approve them now.

Wish us luck!!

P.P.S. Since we moved into the basement of this house, wooden caps have been put on the stairs, which make them stick out 2 inches longer. Because of this, we can not fit our boxspring back up the stairs!! So it is stuck here forever:( Anyone have a spare??? Actually I think I'll be able to scrounge up a mismatched boxspring at the Brick or something for cheap. I hope this is our one thing that goes wrong. But I doubt that.

A day at the (dog) park

Hi guys! Miss me?
Travis and I get asked a lot how life in Calgary is. The answer? Great. We really like it here. We are so so excited to finally move into our own house, after a year and a half of marriage, and a year and a half wasting our money paying other people's mortgages. We both hate the feeling of that money just disappearing at the end of the month. We are excited to start paying into something that will appreciate in value, and be ours. 18 more days!! (and 2 hours, 55 minutes, 08 seconds) but who's counting?? I'm excited to make a house into our home. And we are so grateful for friends and family who are so encouraging and helpful.
As I was saying... Calgary is a great place. We love the friends we have been making here, and moving will also help keep those friendships in place, as they live on that side of town, too. We love the off-leash parks, and shopping (although our tight budget won't allow for much of that) and that its still close to my family. Please pray for us as we take on these changes and big life steps.

I'm risking looking pretty high on myself by posting this. But I am excited about it. Jenny styled me and did my hair and makeup, and Arlynd took some pictures of me. I am normally the one behind the camera so it was a rare treat to be able to have some pictures taken of me. We took SO MANY, and I like a lot of them, but I will post just my favorite one... for now. Who knows, maybe after some editing I might post a couple more. Here it is:

Yeah, Yeah... I suck

Get over it. I have succumbed to facebook. It's easier, and I don't have to think of witty things to say. I was never a big fan of writing or English class. I sound like a pessimist today.
Wanna see some pictures from camping? The family pictures are courtesy of Amanda, and Christy took the group pic of the kidlets.

In other news, I'm taking pictures at my friend Anali's wedding this weekend.. wish me luck!

Update

We just found out on friday that Travis got the job at Captaris!! Yay! It was a good thing, because he spent almost a whole month going through the interview process, only working (building playgrounds) for about a week of that. So he starts next Tuesday. Captaris is actually really close to my work, so, depending on what time he works, we might be able to carpool! And it will really help with eventually buying a house, rather than having jobs on opposite ends of the city and deciding who gets to drive longer to work.

I am so anxious for the next stage in our lives.... Homeownership. We just need to get Travis' student line of credit payed off and save some money. Hopefully that will be motivation enough to live cheaper! I heard on the radio that Calgary is starting to become a buyers market! The houses are still very expensive, but there are enough on the market now that the houses are actually worth their selling price, and people can't just charge any rediculous price. Let's hope this trend continues for a few months!

Travis' meez

Seven Random Facts

Since I was tagged by Susan, it's now my turn to share 7 random facts.

Here are the rules… Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog.

  1. My big toe is ABNORMALLY bigger than all the rest of them, and the rest of them are all curled (hammer toes). This creates some problems for shoe purchasing, and I wear a hole into socks within days of buying them where my big toe goes. You can see a picture of them here.
  2. I'm not a neat person. I really wish I was, and I could be if I wanted to. But... lets face it, I like a good sit on my rear after work.
  3. When I was little I was SUPER shy. My parents kept trying to get me out of my little world by enrolling me in sports. That didnt ever last too long. I was in figure skating for one year, but didnt want to go back because I WAVED TO MY DAD during our final performance, which we were strictly told not to do. I was in gymnastics for a year, but I broke my arm, and of course didn't go back. I got out of Volleyball camp before it even started.
  4. Also when I was younger I was very fragile emotionally. You could make me cry at the drop of a hat, just ask my brothers. My catch phrase was "you hurt my feeeeeelings". Physical pain, however, was a different situation. When I broke my arm in gymnastics my parents didnt believe me, and it took a couple of days before I got a cast on it.
  5. I fell (actually was accidentally pushed) out of the back of a truck at my cousin Dianna's house when we were little, and I stayed in the Coaldale Hospital with a big goose egg for a night.
  6. I have no will power when it comes to fries or Starbucks. No diet will ever hold me back. Travis calls me a "fry monster".
  7. I have not found my passion. I like interior design, but I am not passionate about it. I wish I had that. I thought it might be photography, and dont get me wrong, I looove taking pictures, and love my D50, but I'm not passionate about that either.

I tag Lisa, Christy, Amanda, Courtney, Robyn, Meghan, and Janice.
